This is a hill I will die on.
Educational spaces deserve color. They deserve vibrancy, playful graphics, whimsical details, and murals that invite children to look a little closer, imagine a little bigger, and experience their world differently.
Kids spend so much of their day learning, listening, processing, navigating friendships, and figuring out who they are. Their brains are working constantly. The environments they inhabit should offer more than blank walls and expanses of gray concrete. They should offer moments of curiosity, opportunities for movement, sparks of imagination, and little reminders that learning can be joyful.
Colorful, thoughtfully designed spaces can help schools feel more welcoming, engaging, and connected to the children who fill them. Murals and graphics can reinforce school values, tell stories, encourage play, and transform ordinary spaces into places where children feel invited to participate, explore, and belong.
A sidewalk becomes an opportunity to move. A blacktop becomes a place for connection. A once-overlooked wall becomes a source of wonder.
These aren't just decorative extras. They are opportunities to be intentional about the environments we create for our children.

Outdoor Playground Areas
Painting blacktop is the “in” thing right now!
Why? It’s an economical way to use HSA funds while bringing fun games, positive messaging and things to do for those “blacktop only” recess days. Playground equipment is expensive and this is an easy way to update your play spaces!
I’ve visited a few of these months and a year later and the paint is still in tact and the kids are still interacting with each of the areas that we’re created!
